Cycling along the beach between Santa Monica and Venice whilst spotting a celebrity at the local juice bar are everyday activities that our EC students enjoy when they’re not in class.

Courses

  • General English

    From 16 years From 10 to 15 students per class Length of course min 1 week Length of lesson 45 min For all levels
    On the General English Course, you attend a core of 20 lessons per week, which will give you a practical understanding of the English language and take you all the way to fluency. Your confidence will improve as we train you in all four communication skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. You can also choose to extend and intensify your 20 lessons per week by having 24 or 30 lessons per week.

    Intensive English
    This course is made up of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week including the General English classes. It also allows you to personalise your course by taking an additional 10 lessons per week across a wide selection of Special Focus options.

    Semi-Intensive English
    You get 24 lessons (18 hours) per week in General English plus four lessons per week in your choice of Special Focus study.

    If you want the freedom and flexibility to be able to pursue the career of your choice anywhere in the world, English for Work could be the Special Focus Programme for you.

    English is the international language of finance, science and a host of other sectors, and this course will leave you feeling confident, fully equipped and able to follow the pathway you choose.

    Learn workplace skills, such as giving presentations and preparing for interviews, and enhance "soft skills", such as justifying opinions, making recommendations, presenting scenarios and resolving conflict.

    Lessons topics will cover negotiating, HR and management, branding and promotional strategies, project management, CSR and business ethics.
  • English in the City

    This Special Focus Programme combines 20 lessons of General English with 10 lessons focused on language study inspired by Los Angeles. You will spend one lesson each week outside of the classroom with your class, visiting places of interest and engaging in activities in the local area.

    Classroom study will also support themes that change weekly, including "Describing Art and Culture - Museum Tours", "Talk like a Local - Neighbourhood Visits" and "The Language of Sports - Stadium Visits".
  • Academic English

    You will focus on areas such as: writing assignments on specific topics, listening to lectures and taking effective notes, and preparing and giving academic presentations. You will also understand issues such as referencing, how to avoid plagiarism, and other ‘dos and don’ts’ you will need to know at university.

    This is a Special Focus Programme, combining 20 lessons of General English with 10 Special Focus lessons of Academic English for a complete intensive experience that is tailored to you and your personal reasons for learning.

    Homestay

    Homestaying means staying with an English-speaking Los Angeles family. You will live as they live. This means eating what they eat and following their family rules. This is a great choice if you want to practise your English with native speakers and experience the local culture.

    Homestays are safe and friendly with all host-families being carefully checked by the homestay agencies we work with. These agencies make sure you get the best family for you.

    Homes vary in type. Some homes are apartments, some are townhomes, and some are single family homes. Students are placed in a single or twin room. Each room is furnished with a bed, dresser and closet. Some rooms have TVs and other amenities. Students also have access to a shared bathroom. Bed linen and towels are provided by the host family.

    Host families are located either in the city limits of Santa Monica or in adjacent cities. Some of the typical neighborhoods where host families live are: West Los Angeles, Westwood, Culver City, Marina del Rey, and Venice.

    Barrington Plaza Aparthotel

    Barrington Plaza in Brentwood is east of Santa Monica and Venice, about 24km north of LAX. It is a very trendy area close to Santa Monica, Venice, and Westwood.

    University of California Los Angeles and Westwood Village are only a few bus stops away.

    Aqua Marina Del Rey Aparthotel
