Alpha School of English in Malta is a well-established EFL school, licensed by Malta’s Ministries of Education and Tourism and approved by the ELT Council. Established in 1991, our English school has welcomed junior and adult students from all over the world to learn English in Malta for over 30 years.

    Our Adult General English is a group course which is designed to help you communicate effectively in English in a variety of everyday situations.

    This Adult General English course aims to develop all students’ general English skills and give students plenty of opportunity to practise reading, writing, listening and speaking in English in class.

    The Adult General English course covers general English grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and language structure as well as important everyday English expressions and phrases. Our international student culture in classes also ensures that students will continue to practise their English outside the school throughout their stay in Malta.

    The course timetable is organised so that the students receive a balance of different types of lessons which include general conversation activities such as debates, discussions and role-play, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation exercises.

    You would have 20 lessons per week from Monday to Friday, so 4 lessons per day. English lessons take place 09:00 - 10:30 and 11:00 - 12:30.

  • General English - 30 group lessons per week

    Homestay tuition is a unique experience whereby students live with and take English lessons in their teacher's family home (which can be situated anywhere in Malta).

    Additional family members or friends or exchange students are also welcome to book a homestay basis only without English lessons.

    An immersion programme in English, the Home Tuition Course is an intensive programme which gives homestay students the opportunity to improve their English level significantly in a short space of time. Students benefit from practising their English with their teacher throughout the day, not just during their English lessons.

    Home Tuition Courses run by Alpha School of English are specifically designed to suit each student's needs. All students are asked to complete our online Assessment Test and Needs Analysis form before their arrival in Malta which will enable us to determine their level of English and any special areas which they would like to cover during their stay.

    Our Home Tuition One to One Course consists of 20 or 30 private lessons held at your teacher's host family home. The price of the course also includes a Single Room at the teacher's house on full board basis and return airport transfers. Additional Home Tuition One-to-One lessons may also be booked on request. The course price also includes double room accommodation, all meals and return airport transfers:

In the morning, students participate in a Business English in Mini-Group course where focus is placed on improving students' general English language skills. Lessons provide practice in the four English skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing and thereby provide invaluable general training for English exams.

    In the afternoon, students have One to One lessons where attention is now focused exclusively on examination preparation. These lessons are based on past exam papers and examination course books to train students for each examination module. The teacher will also focus on exam techniques.

    Alpha School of English offers three Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) examination preparation courses: BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher:

    • Preliminary – is set at B1 of the CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference of Languages, and is suitable for Intermediate level students.
    • Vantage – is set at B2 of the CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference of Languages, and is suitable for Upper Intermediate level students.
    • Higher – is set at C1 of the CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference of Languages, and is suitable for Advanced level students.

The objectives of this course are; to improve students' ability to read and comprehend written texts quickly and at an academic level, to write well-structured, detailed and clear pieces in a variety of styles and at an advanced level of English, discuss and write about a piece of literature, to understand complex arguments and opinions, speak at a fluent level of English in a range of social contexts including social, academic and professional environments. The CAE exam tests these skills across 5 exam papers; Listening, Reading, Writing, Use of English and Speaking.
